Does scouts originate from boys brigade?

I was once a cub scout and I was posted in boys brigade in my new school recently. When I told my friends in boys brigade that I do not like boys brigade and liked scouts instead due to my own preference, he told me that scouts originated from boys brigade. This was not the first time I heard it so I would like to clarify it.
